Unless there's something unusual about her location, those sorts of concerns may be reversed from actual risk factors. "Sketchy" neighbourhoods often have more eyes on the street, since cars are less prevalent, while sexual crimes tend to happen in more isolated locations.
(And while I am a guy, I don't think I'm either ugly or poorly dressed.)
