Really, if you're just starting out then YES, buy a cheap bike that fits you and does what you want it to do. Ride it for a while and then if you catch the bug upgrade to something better.

Go for it dude. For 25$ ride it for a week and then donate it to charity if you don't like it.
Why against carbon? If you're getting into something get into it the right way. Sure, you don't have to spend a few grand on a bike, but you should still get something good enough to last long enough to know whether or not you like it. Hence why I discouraged this bike. It really looks like its going to break the first time he bunnyhops it over anything. Or off anything.
