Dodged a bullet yesterday - glass
I was on the MUP yesterday on the return trip of my longest ride to date of 30.6 miles. This MUP is paved asphalt along old railroad ROW, about 10 feet wide. Most of it is heavily forested on both sides, but there are some areas that back up to neighborhoods.
So I was riding along and saw a guy up ahead coming the other way who stopped and got off his bike. Right as I was passing him he yelled "GLASS!!!" and suddenly noticed I was riding right through a huge patch of broken glass covering the whole path. Since the path is covered in lots of leaves I was unable to see the glass before I was riding right through it. I thought "oh sh*t" since I was at least 8 to 10 miles from my car still. I stopped a few hundred feet past the glass, got off and checked both tires, and amazingly found nothing whatsoever. These are the stock 700x25 tires that came on the Felt, can't remember the brand at the moment.
I turned around and went back to help the guy who was trying to push/brush the glass off the path with his foot. A couple other guys came along and we motioned for them to stop for the glass, and they also helped to try to clean it off.
As we were doing this we heard some kids up in the trees/brush who were just sitting there and throwing glass bottles all over the MUP. Made me so mad. One of the guys was like "yeah this happened yesterday, I'd like to go kick their @$$es".
Anyway, it was nice to be able to pitch in a bit with maintenance of the path, despite the circumstances of the problem. Hopefully we were able to keep some other people from having mishaps with flat tires due to a few delinquents' idiocy.
