The waving at other road users does depend on the environment. I am more likely to wave in an area sparsely populated with them, rather than in a city environment.

However, don't fall into the trap of judging other riders by their grimace and whether they are members of the velomanazia or velomanati.

You could accuse me of being one of those on occasions, too. But I am not really. It may be that I am concentrating on the road conditions ahead of me, or what is happening traffic-wise behind me, or I might be in the middle of an interval, or coming to the end of a tough century... of 1200km randonnee.

It's dangerous ground judging others because they don't respond sociallythey way you think they should. To be honest, I am happiest when they respond legally first the way they should, and if there are room and time for niceties, so be it.
