Carbon fiber wins in my opinion.
Although the post is over 6 months old, let's wrap this up. Always compare quality to quality. I own a Scott CR-1 and a Lightspeed Ultimate. Now, Lightspeed Classic's are 3/2, while Ultimate's are 6/4. The Ultimate's BB area is beefier and stiffer. I enjot both bikes for their ride equally, but I am comparing apples to apples.
Neither is an entry level bike, nor the top end. Ti is not over rated. Cheaper entry level Ti is over rated. I also have a custom Steelman that is awesome. No doubt the welds have more to do with it than 853 or 861, etc.
