and there is a difference between waterproof and water resistant, windproof and wind resistant. I have a softshell jacket which half of it has laminate half hasn't and it is a softshell too.
The problem is at the limit between wateresistant and waterproof

I would be careful with the waterproof/windproof claims

waterproof breathable softshell made out of a schoeller laminate.
you mean
wateresistant breathable softshell made out of a schoeller laminate.

ALL hardshells ARE windproof. it's a nature of their construction. they are not, however, a 'windproof' which in a discussion of winter layering systems denotes a distinct category of unlined, unlaminated shell layer.

i agree with that all the way. I know that you were talking about the category windproof (that i would call windresistant) when i was talking about the attribute a jacket has, a windproof jacket which regroup mostly some hardshell jackets but also some softshell jackets and the fact that regarding the moisture management and breathability hardshells usually react differently than the category "windproof" you're talking about

Regarding your post on ventile cotton, i read it. It is another story. This belong to what i would call the possible gen 5 ecwcs. Garments which adapt by changing their structure depending on the situation.

The more time goes less separate the different categories become as the world become more and more complex. Categories mix up together. Entropy increases.
It's like that in music, demography, economy, IT, litterature, painting and in textile too
