Much more relevant update:

spoke to Fox and a brand new shock is on its way, will be delivered tomorrow. test ride thursday! interestingly, it's a whole new shock rather than my original one being repaired. I hope they sent the reducers too... didn't think to ask about that while on the phone, but they were clearly installed in the shock I sent in... *crosses fingers*
