Is the cylinder in upside down? Is the hole that the threads goes through in the center of the cylinder (equidistant from the ends)? I had an 8FS with basically the same hinge, but I never had to take it apart.. there should be protrusion in the relaxed position, and then you would have to lift up on the q/r handle to disengage .. it's a secondary lock just incase the primary q/r fails.. isn't really needed, but is nice for peace of mind..
