Wasn't Competitive Cyclist selling a basic PowerTap rear wheel new for $650 or so ? Then buy a used 50mm front wheel off Ebay, since the front makes more difference for aero anyway. Or save more money and buy a used PowerTap wheel. There will be plenty of other things you can spend the savings on.(gas, entry fees, food, clothing, winter gear ...)
