Closing Yosemite to Cars
I was in Yosemite Valley a few months ago, spent some time taking to a ranger. It seems the master plan is headed in the direction of forcing vistors to come into the valley in shuttle buses, thus getting private vehicles out of the valley. Who knows if I'll see that in my lifetime.
It's a curious direction, sort of turning the major parks into museums..like 'see but don't touch'. I know from hiking through the eastern sierras years ago it felt that way... mandatory permits, controlled camping, no fires, nothing out....lots of no this and no that. And a $2K+ rescue fee if you end up needing help.
Good for bike touring though, assuming they don't kick out bikes as well. I guess they have effectively done that on most trails. What do you think of how our parks are being managed?
