I was always raised with the knowledge that if they are following behind you or coming directly at you (from behind) then keep riding, but if they (as my dad would say) have a bead on you and are on an intercept course, where they'll run into you in 10 feet or whatever, that's when you stop. Hope that makes sense, I'll can try and explain more if it doesn't.
