There are several areas in the southern CA hills where I used to hike, hunt, and camp as a youth that are now closed to entry of any kind in perpetuity. The argument is that it is necessary to prohibit all access to these areas to "save" them for the people that are now barred from setting foot (or for that matter, eyes) on them.

If no one is allowed to see or visit these areas, who are you saving them for - the private enjoyment of the caretakers? If you cannot see them or access them, do they exist in any practical sense anymore?
