I leave my road bike in the car all summer long, with the tire inflated. If the tires have a plastic rim strip, that will fail and cause two flats on the first sunny day. I haven't had any problems with cloth rim strips.
Also, I ruined a plastic Zefal frame pump, and replaced it with an alloy Blackburn, and haven't had any problem since.
