My two partners and I were touring the Midwest when on a day crossing Illinois we came upon an older farm house that had a couple fruit trees in the front yard close to the road. There was an abundance of pears on the ground and I stopped to find one that was relatively fresh without worms. The one woman of our group felt it best that we should at least attempt to ask for the fruit or offer some compensation for it though it wasn't clear anyone lived in the dilapidated house. She got off her bike, went up on the porch and knocked on the door, when to our surprise, an old bearded man answered the door completely naked! I never saw her move so fast as she was off that porch, on her bike, and half way out of the county before I could take the first bite out of that pear. Now I realize that many of the female readers would think this terribly offensive but after the initial shock I had to just laugh aloud, waved at the old fellow and rode on.
