- When a lane is not wide enough for safe sharing but we judge high traffic volume or speed or bad sight lines make riding lane center or center left unsafe we are well advised to either ride far right and accept close passes or find another route.

I think that you've hit the nail on the head. We should try to find some common middle ground. No one style is going to work for everyone. Although with more experience roads that some find daunting can actually ridden safely.
