Bikes: the ever shifting stable loaded with comfortable road bikes and city and winter bikes

Has everyone lost sight of the discussion?

It's all well and good to take posters to task, but the issue is problems while taking the lane. messengers, johns imagined flying monkeys, the club cyclists and the chris526's and the digital cowboys and the vols all have to deal with. We ALL have to deal with it. Bicycling on roads depicted by the original poster cause commonplace friction with motorists while taking the lane.

here's the topic of the thread -Even while 'taking the lane' -be it by 'vc', club cyclist, motorists, or old farts -faster motor vehicle traffic (and boy, there's a lot of it) will still want to get around.

even 'vehicular' cyclists encounter motorist harassment while 'taking the lane'. chris516 describes it as a regular occurrance.

I don't know why anyone bothers discussing 'taking the lane' with John Forester, anyway- published advice in his book "Effective Cycling" is for bicyclists to NEVER take the lane in front of faster traffic unless doing the speed of traffic- no sense looking to John for ideas about 'taking the lane'.
