well, I've never had a thorn or glass sliver flat on a Specialized Armadillo tire (too bad they ride like rocks), and my son brought home a pair really high mileage 700x25 gatorbacks that had all kinda slashes in the outer rubber and no failures or flats (but it was pretty damn worn out after a year of 500 mile weeks in all weather)
