Well, thats a pretty good idea, only thing is that everyone is from different places. You can already find rides in your area by going to any one of the many GPS sites and plugging in your zip / postal code and find rides near you. I plan some routes with my account on ridewithgps.com, the elevation tool is what really helpful, there are some killer hills that I may want to avoid that you won't see on a simple map. I use the maps and tools for planning but seldom actually record my rides with there. I keep a record of my rides with my GPS app SportTracks : http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/sporttracks/ .
