AFAIK Sram rear derailers pretty much have to be actuated by numbered Sram shifters - different cable pull, or something like that.
The Giant Iguana had Suntour Shifters for 1990, IIRC. I'm sure some of the other model years up to 1995 had Shimano shifters.
Sram RD would be a poor choice in this instance.
