As far as a synthetic sleeping bag staying warm, that's a myth or misstatement. It also loses warmth. Try it for yourself.
I used to have a leaky tent. When the rain got in one night, bottom half of my synthetic sleeping bag soaked up enough water to leave my legs and feet wet, but I stayed reasonably warm. Using a down bag, I was once in a situation where water got into the tent. I noticed the cold right away.
