The American cities that I know to have severe congestion problems are Boston and parts of NYC, and in neither city have I seen congestion such as that shown in the photographs from the Netherlands that are presented in the birth of bikeways propaganda. In Boston, the problem is complicated by the "cow path" pattern of the streets, while in NYC, which is mostly rectangular grid, the problem is more from simple overload.
