It will make upgrading easier for the more casual racers that don't do a full schedule every year. That will help make growing the sport easier, if that is what USAC wants to do. Domestic pros aren't going to like it, as there will be more riders trying to take their bread and butter away. This may force more Bissell-type tactics in the NCC crits, which isn't good for racing. On the other hand, it should grow the size of the P/1 and P/1/2 fields, harkening back to when I raced in the 80's in fields of 150-200 riders. That makes things exciting.
One of the things I thought that I would never be able to do before I retire from racing is upgrade to Cat1. Now I have a real chance to do that if I play my cards right. I'm halfway there.
I just checked on the USAC website and couldn't find anything for 2013. Are the changes posted anywhere aside from folks having meetings with their regional coordinators?
