IIRC, the levers are one of the least effective levers ever made, which contribute to their lack of stopping power. I ran my AERs with Campag levers and found them marginal. There was a thread on CR about these a few years ago...well not specifically the AER, but several classic brake sets that covered the mechanical advantage of them.
