You are actually quite correct.

Chombi,

I used them very effectively on two Equipes. However, both had tubular rims without braking surfaces (Fiamme Hard Silvers and Ambrosio Chronos). I trued the crap out of them to allow me to run the calipers up close and personal to the rim, and had no problems whatsoever. In fact, I adjusted them using the lever pull as a guide, also, because in "normal" adjustment, I could nearly pull the lever to the bar. I attributed some of this to cable housing flex, and adjusted until I literally could not pull the lever to the bar.

I remember thinking "if they bring these levers out in aero, with a pull like SLR's, I'm switching every bike to them." They were very smooth on the hands.

Like afilado, I played with the cam, but did so to eliminate toe-in. My goal was a nearly complete contact patch, pad-to-rim, and then the wheel pulled the rear of the pad into full contact, and the bike definitely stopped.

I believe the last person I saw replace the pads used some NOS pads/holders from some Campy deltas when he replaced them on his 54cm Equipe. He's well over 70, and has no problem stopping. I think his "beater bike" is a Guerciotti.

Yours would look fantastic on my next build, which is black and chrome. If Campy made 10-sp DT shifters, like DA's, I'd be hounding you for them.
