I'm around 5-11" (down from a scant 6-1" in my youth) with a relatively short inseam of around 30-31"
My R knee doesn't have full range of motion, so I HAD to go to shorter cranks. I've settled on 165 MM after experimentation. My results were-
Length----Cadence
175---60 constant knee pain and my foot would come off the pedal @ 12 o' clock and 62 RPM
170---80 occasional knee pain
165---85 no pain
160---82 simply getting too short for my chubby legs
For what its worth my neighbor was telling me this morning that going from 175mm cranks to 170mm helped reduce pain in his knees.
