Although I am out of shape compared to racers, I find it difficult to find racer caliper people even at a gym. I've asked fit guys how heavy they are, and then asked them to pedal on a bike at max intensity, and I've not found anyone much better than me. They say they just don't do that much. I think the only place to find athletes is on a college or high school team, not at the gym. Most college athletes will not fly for money because they won't be allowed to be on their team afterwards since they would then be professional.
I saw the video of team atlas. First they said they would be 30 feet larger than gamera. Then they said it is the same size. And they are using tube spars instead of truss spars, and non-tapered blades. I don't think they have a chance of beating gamera, but they did get $200,000 of funding, almost as much as the prize.

Pick a club and go on one of their rides. You do have a road bike right?
