Ha, this isn't the bike with the creaky BB, this is the bike with the toasted BB.

Thanks for the tip about the cups, I was about to ask what to do with them. I'll have to look into the chaser thing. BTW, are cups more or less universal? Could I swap a cup from one bike to another?

Well, this is a 7-speed bike (single chainring, 7-speed freewheel). So I'm hoping it behaves more like a multi-speed bike with regards to any chainline change. What I don't really understand is why exactly the chainline would change... I need to actually see/install a cartridge BB and read that manual to have a better idea of what I'm doing. If I'm going from 3P 119 mm to sealed 122mm, I can't really get past the mental idea of, "OK so it's just 3 mm more sticking out the left" or whatever.

I've heard about adding weep holes. Probably wouldn't hurt on the craptastical bikes I work on. Is there any particular way I go about it? Right dead center underneath the center of the BB axle? Just get a little punch to make a dent, and then go at it with a drill? Is there any way that dirt or spray from underneath the bike can shoot inside the BB from underneath, or is it totally safe?
