Polling is a bit of a science, and it often reveals as much about the polling process itself, than it does about what you are trying to find out. You (and I for that matter) were expecting to see a distribution that looked like the upper percentile range of a Bell Curve. Didn't happen that way. One thing I would look at is the age distribution of the population as a whole.

The US is getting older, while there is a very pronounced "youth bulge" in much of the third world.
Good thought, but I prefer the "50-54 crowd just isn't as bright as the older folks" theory.
