Dude, I don't think you're gonna fit in around here. You're WAY too polite and humble! Didn't anybody tell you how the internet works!

One suggestion is to try to make friends among the cycling community, get to know who the wrenches are, and who you can borrow tools from. Or if not borrow (you never know who will lose or damage your tools), maybe they'll just do it for free if it's quick & easy like that -- especially to help out a college student. Also, check around if your school has a bike co-op, or try to rustle up some friends and start one.
