While visiting my parents on Thanksgiving, I found my father's old Nishiki Cascade. He believes it was purchased new in 86 or 87. I remember riding this bike all growing up before I got my first real bike (1990 Specialized Rockhopper). I had just met the parent of a child at my daughter's daycare that did antique car restoration. He told me he had done several bikes before (blasting and painting mostly). When I saw the bike, it clicked. I'd fix it up, mostly for nostalgia sake --- but, I also wanted a fat tired SS.
For reference this is what the bike looked like new (stolen from MTBReview):
When I found her:
Within 4 days, she was blasted clean:
2 days after that, powder coat was done:
Less than 2 weeks after finding her dusty and dry rotted....All clean now:
At this point, I'm still waiting on brakes, seat post, and decals from the fine people at Velocals.com
I should've taken good picture at all stages of this, but I honestly had everything done so quickly, didn't really even think about it.
Edit: Decals just arrived today!
