Nicely summed up. I'm a serious casual rider. Wouldn't know VO2 Max if it jumped in front of me. My 6 bikes range from a beautiful Univega Super Strada bought new to an American Eagle revived after being abandoned in the bushes for years. Love them both.
Few months ago I was passed on the bike trail by a triathlete in training (said so on his jersey). He passed me properly, got to the end of the trail, turned around and tore back up. If he'd kept going 100 yards, he'd have seen this:
Love the beach in the off season. I'm not putting down Mr. Triathlete. He's happy doing his thing. He and his ilk need to remember I'm just as much a cyclist as they. Cranking 40 lbs of deceptively-labeled Japanese steel uphill is a feat that few will dare.
"Many of our great carmakers began by making bicycles - Peugeot as well"

That type of offhand crack is why British TV rules.
