Do not attempt to weld the rim.

5mm is a pretty big hole, so you might try covering the hole with an appropriately sized piece of high quality tim tape (as Mattgnik suggests). Also consider applying tape or a band around the entire rim for extra peace of mind.

The best bet, of course, would be to replace the rim (if possible) due to the possibility of unseen cracks.
