I built my bike very similiar to the way you are doing it. Pretty much all off of ebay and nashbar.Other than the Velocity Aerohead wheelset I had built. I was patient and managed to get amazing deals. I think I spent a total of $800 for a bike that would have cost over $2000 if bought whole. . I too had no idea what I was doing, so it was a bit of a process. I bought one of those Park all-in-one kits which was great. You are getting a bunch of good advice. One thing I would recommend, due to the noob builder status, is to build it, then take it to a shop to have them give it a once-over in case you missed anything. There were several adjustments that they had to make on mine but it was fairly inexpensive. Its something fun to do and it kind of gives you a sense of pride when its all done.
