Among the coastal climbs of South Orange County, I think Nyes is the toughest. It opens with a 20 percent grade for a quarter mile, hitting 28 percent if you are foolish enough to take the inside line through the first corner. I work as a land surveyor, and we actaully did a topographic survey of the street at this point. Things get easier after passing the corner. Nyes is only 1.2km, though, and avaerages a bit over 14 percent. The full climb is 1.9km, and averages around 11 percent.

Speaking of Mix Canyon, my in-laws live in Vacaville, and I have ridden past it many times. I did not realize how far back it went until just now. I will check it out, along with nearby Gates Canyon and let you know how those are. My family is going up the week of Xmas, so I will have plenty of time to ride.
