I've got a quill on my Europa ( light green below) and a modern stem setup mounted on a 1" to 1 1/8 " adaptor. Yes, I can feel the difference but to be honest, it doesn't bother me. There is a simple elegance to a nice quill while the heavy stem and bars of the modern setup is more businesslike. Frankly, unless you've another reason for using one or the other, aesthetics are a good enough excuse ... just don't say that to a roadie
