Yup, positive. The oil ring will get distorted with removal and you won't be able to get it to properly seat in there anymore.

What you do, is take a pick and scoop the foam ring out from under the oil seal. Set the foam rings in bath oil while you service your fork and replace the foam rings when the fork is ready to be re-assembled.

All Fox forks have the foam ring below the oil seal. The Rockshox setup makes no sense because the bath oil can not reach the foam rings(since it's held in by the oil seal) and they dry up. With RS, you're better off ditching the foam ring and lubing the stanchions instead.
