And when you say the rim "bends", do you mean it just goes out of true (as it will when spokes break, of course) or does it develop actual kinks or flat spots or places where the walls/braking surfaces splay outward?
Upon closer inspection, and if I remember correctly its always like this, the spokes are broken on the drive side. I also have an issue with bending axles... the current axle is bent, and this is after getting it fixed from being bent no more than 1.5 months ago.

I don't see kinks/flat spots.. the wheel looks round, but far off true with the broken spokes.

Not sure if this is any relevance, but I'm also on my 4th set of metal platform pedals.

Making me ponder whether this is more the streets or my legs causing this problem? I can definitely feel some flex (if no slippage) when its time to power away from a stoplight, I thought this was normal operation?

Right now I'm looking at a used KHS elite 220 - and then swapping for a sturdy wheelset if need be... in which case I'll be back to the drawing board
