wow, thanks so much for the responses. I hope I can learn enough to pay forward in these forums. Some things I left out from the list of components

Sakae Custom "Road Champion" bars
3ttt stem
Atom pedals

Quite a few of the parts match the original equipment as per Sheldon Brown. I'm curious if revealing the serial number will produce more info. Is there some guide for Raleigh serial numbers? Or is this such an oddity that serial numbers won't mean much to anyone?

I have seen some pictures of another RRA with apparently an identical fork as mine. pics here: http://www.circleacycles.com/brian/bikes/raleigh_rra/

I probably don't want to attempt a full original restore, given the non-stock fork. As for the brakes, would I be gaining anything by searching the original weinmanns? I like the look of the Shimanos and they seem to work well, I'm inclined to leave them, unless the originals are that much better. Some guy in Hungary was selling a set of "Raleigh Weinmanns" complete with the levers and Carlton-branded rubber hoods. But I still like the look of the shimanos better.

I have no idea how good the Nisin Moncalieri wheels are. Are the Shimano hubs in them too crappy or too out of character for the bike?

I should mention I don't want to spend a lot of money on this project, If me and my son can strip the powder-coat we'll try to do a decent paint job ourselves. Unless I hear that the frame is so "special" that anything less than a full professional paint job would be desecrating it, but surely it can't get any worse than the powder-coat job already on it...

So I guess $130 was a pretty good deal for this bike?
