It happened to me.

Pedal strike at ~20mph lifted rear tire off the road momentarily in a turn, came down and boom! Ripped the tube apart and partly unmounted the tire. The worst part was I went down and a close-following car barely missed me. First crash in many years, and haven't had one since.
