I work on my bikes outdoors, and theres a telephone pole right next to my outdoor work bench, so I got Park Tools 'wall clamp' and lag bolted it to said telephone pole. I can WAIL on the bike and it doesn't wobble at all. handy when removing really stuck bottom brackets and such. the new style clamp is /really/ nice too. when I'm not using it, I pull the clamp and lock assembly out of it and stow them in my tool shed.
I hope the local phone company doesn't come along some day and remove it for you.
As to WAILING on the bike, I always remove and reinstall bottom brackets while the bike is still has both wheels installed and I have the wheels on the floor. I don't want to put that much load on either the repair stand or on the frame tube or seatpost.
