(except you forgot Pittsburgh!)

On our North Side we even have a nice park next to a residential neighborhood -- it's where they used to let the animals graze.

But, the houses all had narrow fronts and so they packed a lot of them into a block. That was so people were able to walk to where they needed to go which they had to do -- because that's how that got where they were going. Plus you can see where the old mom & pop grocery stores were -- right in the middle of the residential neighborhood.

Basically, people simply walked a lot so the neighborhoods were built to accommodate that...
