For some phones you have to have constant voltage to charge, so you may need an intermediate battery. It works best with only using the hub for light or for charging, so run the hub to a switch, the switch will power light/charger. If the phone needs a battery, get an interim battery that charges via USB and then charge the phone from the battery. My experience is that this only works so-so. I used the hub to keep my 705 charged when touring but still ended up recharging from wall outlets. A friend of mine did all the wiring, so I can't speak to it other than at this general level. I'm sure there are more options in europe. Good luck. I have reverted to just using the hub for light.
