East Long Beach? How are you going to get there? If you're going to end up at Brea/W. Central you may as well head down to the mall area, it's probably only a mile or so.

I'll be riding over from Whittier (and I'll probably bail when all the hills are done since I live in Whittier, no sense in driving to Brea to ride back to Whittier) and I usually commute on La Habra/Central/State College when I need to ride east west through that part of town. I'll probably leave home at about 7:20 to hit brea by 8 so shout if you see me toodling around on my old blue Spec. Roubaix.
