Flipping the wheel making the jump from SS to Fixed.

Well as someone relatively new to FS/SS but a expeirenced builder/rider who has made a dozen or so of both with great reslults. I'm considering make the big jump and making my SS trainer/beater FS. Everything on the bike is about perfect so all would need to do is Flip the wheel and tire I have gotten comfortable riding using it as a SS. What would I really gain and or loose from the switch. As I don't see myself gaining a lot by the switch yet so many younger riders swear by it I just want some opinions what are the good and bad things. If this helps heres a pic of the bike Rock solid vintag Nishiki frame, nice properly spaced setup sugino crank with 1/8 chain ring and chain, nice alex rim flips flops currently has full drops and great brakes which I will keep either way.
