YES. Definitely. Colder air pools down at the bottom of a creek channel, canyon, or similar, while the warmer air rises out. That's why you always camp up the canyon. It can be 10 or 15F colder at the bottom.

my commute includes crossing an overpass type bridge that goes over a big inlet in the middle of a marsh
