I just got a 2005 Matrix, and invested in a yakima roof rack with two viper bike mounts. It was a bit pricey, around $450ish when all said and done, but well worth it. I was doing the "hatch back" thing for a while, but the back of my nice new car was getting very messy. When I ran over some coyote poop and didn't notice until it was in my car, I made the decision to get the rack. I thought about a trunk rack, but didn't want to have to take it off and put it back on every time I want to use the rear end access to the car.

I'll post a picture of my car with the rack if I get a chance to take one tomorrow.
