I like the looks of that Fuji. The fenders on the Mercier are a nice plus, but not a decision maker in my eyes. The suspension fork I would call a minus. Not necessary on a bike like this and at that price point, it's probably not a really good one.
My wife has also suggested she might like a hybrid. Right now she's got a road bike converted to upright bars and it's not really ideal. I might look at those BD bikes for her.
