I like to get an old steel bike for say $20.00. Then I like to completely disassemble and overhaul them, new grease, cables, tires, true wheels, touch up, polish. After I do all that I can't help but think the bikes are beautiful, largely because I know how nice and smooth they ride and I'm proud of my work, even the ones that many people would disregard. I recently did that with a '70s varsity and I must admit I spent a lot of time starring at it after I was done. I have too many bikes in my apartment so I had to sell it. I only hope the guy I sold it to will see it in the same light I did, but I doubt it. I sure will be sad if I see it cruising around as a fixie set up!
