I'm sure the varsity was fine! Lot's of people like to rag on them because they literally weigh 40+ lbs. Plus there are a ton of them around. But they really are pretty cool. All the chrome makes them look great which is a good reason for somebody who cares about aesthetics to like them. And if somebody's ever taken one apart they would be lying if they said the things weren't well built. They also ride pretty dang nice when they are well maintained. I took mine on some pretty long rides before I sold it and I had a blast. Even on some big climbs it cruised right up. I do wish I could have kept it.
