Ethetics are good. I like the look of something thats been well engineered, well co-ordinated and well looked after. The idea that 'ugly' is some kind of protection doesn't work in my experience. Expensive bikes get stolen - ugly bikes get trashed - either way you end up with no bike. Maybe losing the ugly one hurts less - but I'd rather spend my time and money on something worth getting a little attached to.
